The Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 games

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 single player campaign is the backbone of the first-person shooter, with dozens of hours of gameplay. In multiplayer mode, players are supposed to confirm each kill by collecting dog tags from corpses, but opponents can do exactly that to deny the frag. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 made it just as important for players to kill their opponents and collect the tags, otherwise the effort is in vain. Team Defender also forces players to fight over a prize, but in this case they need to secure a flag to collect double points.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 introduces a couple of new game concepts, with private matches having premade game modes. Infected, Drop Zone and Team Juggernaut were all innovative games at the time of their release, while the popular Special Ops modes from Modern Warfare 2 returns under a different form. Hordes from Gears of War and Nazi zombies are the photos in these games, with players being supposed to survive the siege and complete their objectives.

Gameplay of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Xbox release brought the cooperative mode into the spotlight and Survival emerged as the most popular variant. One or two players fight a wave of incoming enemies, with their mission becoming increasingly difficult over the course of time. The changes made to gameplay mean that the foes no longer spawn in the same place, so it is much more difficult to prevent them from invading. The longer they survive, the more perks they accumulate and the more significant the upgrades.

Completing the single player campaign has a two-pronged effect, as players get familiar with the basic gameplay mechanics and also immersed in the storyline. There are no differences in terms of use of weapons, stamina and resilience between the single player and multiplayer versions. The gameplay is still very much different, with the campaign allowing players to shift between characters and decisions need to be made at the beginning of each act.

Developers decided to make further changes to the gameplay and instead of picking up medical kits, players simply have to wait for their health to regenerate. The mission objectives have also changed, to be more comprehensive and the decisions made during the campaign have an effect on the outcome. Graphic content that can upset players can be skipped, including the scenes of attacks against civilian population.

Plot of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

A familiar foe reemerges in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, with American soldiers taking on Russian military and ex-Spetsnaz operatives. As the war between the United States and Russia intensifies, the players try to destroy jamming towers on American soil and sabotage nuclear submarines. At the height of the campaign, attempts are made on the life of the Russian president whose plane is hijacked in an attempt to prevent the signing of a peace treaty.

The narrative is increasingly complex, with the plots within the Russian government and the attempts to overthrow the establishment thicken. The threat of an all-out war and the use of chemical weapons prompt special forces to travel to Sierra Leone then back to Europe, in London and Germany. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 doesn’t shy away from large-scale conflicts and iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower are destroyed in such battles.

An important chapter in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 unfolds in the Czech Republic, where the main villain has his headquarters. The more exotic locations include a diamond mine in Siberia and glamorous hotels in the United Arab Emirates. The single player campaign doesn’t lack intensity, even though some critics dismissed it as a military fairytale with a predictable outcome.

Development of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 was the result of a partnership between Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software working together to develop the 8th installment of the franchise. The game uses MW3 engine, commonly referred to as the IW 5.0 Engine.

From a visual and audio standpoint, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is a treat to the eye and the ear, while also having built-in support for colorblind players. Despite all the legal problems that plagued its release and the massive leak of May 2011, the game hit the stores in time for the winter holidays.

What are others saying about Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3?

Critical reception for Modern Warfare 3 was excellent, even though developers fell flat of achieving their goal of a 9.5 Metacritic score. Generally the reviewers agree that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 touched the masses and provided the large-scale conflict that franchise fans were hoping for. An exciting campaign, a great multiplayer experience and loads of content were generally the arguments to justify the high ratings. Most of the criticism was channeled on the Wii version due to subpar graphics.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 tournaments

After the game picked up the award for the Best Shooter in 2011, the number of players signing up for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 increased radically. Hundreds of online servers are still running competitions where players can put their skill to the test and move up the leaderboards. Signing up for some competitions is free, while the most serious tournaments are invitational only and the ones who make it to the top of the food chain pick up hefty paychecks.

My rating of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

The developers were disappointed that they failed to hit their target of a 9.5 rating on Metacritic, but I’m more than happy to make amends. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 will forever hold a special place in my heart, for creating a truly memorable atmosphere that no other first-person shooter could deliver.

I spent plenty of hours playing the single player campaign, perhaps even more than competing online against tougher opponents. This says a great deal about the quality of the storyline, since all the games in the Call of Duty franchise are known for their outstanding multiplayer. The fact that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 was considered by reviewers to deliver the best multiplayer experience through the Call of Duty Elite system, also speaks volumes.
