About Citibank

Citibank
Screenshot of the History of Citibank

The bank has a rich history and started off in the early 1800s as the private bank of a business tycoon. It wasn’t until the late 1800s that the bank became a fully fledged member of the national banking system.

The 1900s was a period of expansion and once the Federal Reserve Act came on board, the bank managed to establish a branch in Argentina. Known as one of the biggest banks in the US, it soon became evident that it would go on to be one of the biggest in the world as well. The expansion efforts paid off as the bank opened branches in other parts of the world as well.

Just after the first World War, when the American economy was at its most fragile, the then chairman of the bank, Charles E. Mitchell made some reckless moves which led to one of the most tumultuous days in American history: Black Tuesday. This was the start of the Great Depression, which put a lot of financial strain on the average American, especially war veterans. WWII soon followed which placed the country under even more pressure. Thanks to the manufacturing industry, things started to turn around.

The bank slowly introduced new products to customers, and the economy started moving forward again. Although the bank redeemed itself from the Great Depression days, another scandal would send banks from around the world over the edge. This time it was bad investments in the subprime property markets. When the housing bubble popped, banks across the world felt the effect and Citibank was one of the major players.

A bank that has a surprisingly young history, but seems to benefit from modern views is Ally Bank.

There is no reason to look for a card at any other institution for the most part. This is a fantastic range of cards that provide a little extra when it comes to credit card selections. The rewards are enviable to those stuck at other institutions, but there is one aspect where there might be a slight gap in the market. This is the proper advertising of travel benefits and perhaps including a few more. Other than that, this is a superb range.
