What is Crysis 3
Crysis 3 is a first-person shooter videogame that takes place in the year 2015 New York City. Prophet is the main character in the latest installment of the series published by Electronic Arts and developed by Crytech. The game is supposed to continue the story while also wrapping up the trilogy and it can be played on PCs, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Gameplay of Crysis 3
Crysis 3 bears many similarities to its predecessor, but the gameplay is enhanced by the addition of new features. There are more ways to defeat opponents and melee attacks are more powerful and effective than in the prequel. In most cases, players are more successful at defeating enemies from a distance, using explosives, guns and bows. The Nanosuit is an important piece of equipment, as it is worn by the Prophet and grants him access to a plethora of special abilities.
The Nanosuit runs on energy, so when its level is too low, some abilities are no longer available. Energy is refilled automatically, so all that players must do is to wait for it to recharge. The AI was greatly improved, so opponents are more likely to dodge attacks and inflict more damage. Enemies work together, launch coordinated attacks and even use advanced strategies to overpower players.
The gameplay of Crysis 3 now features new abilities, such as the one of assessing the threat level. In multiplayer, one can attack opponents and signal teammates which targets are the priority. The arsenal of weapons is impressive, but frequently players are more successful if they use stealth mechanics. The invisibility cloak helps them evade enemies and perform silent takedowns.
The first and second games in the series were famous for the manner in which the protagonists wielded the bow. One of the most important additions in Crysis 3 is the compound bow which is deadly accurate and inflicts a lot of damage. The opponents are also armed to the teeth and Ceph technology includes new lasers, sentry turrets and mines. Players can even upgrade the Nanosuit and with each module collected, they unlock new abilities or improve existing ones.
Plot of Crysis 3
Psycho and Prophet are the central characters in Crysis 3 after wrecking havoc in the prequel. They manage to find and imprison Alpha Ceph, but the CELL Corporation finds them shortly after. Prophet is imprisoned alongside other Nanosuit soldiers and his captors prepare to skin him off his unit. Saved by the Resistance, he remains the only soldier still holding onto his powerful gear. Together with his newfound friends, he sets on to destroy the evil corporation and their new System X project.
Helped by Psycho, he manages to disable the core of System X but Alpha Ceph escapes in the process. He opens a wormhole to the aliens’ homeland and they prepare for an invasion of Earth. Prophet quickly understands the importance of killing the Alpha Ceph to prevent the invasion and save the planet. Despite the stiff opposition of alien forces, they find their archenemy and eliminate him. With a last-ditch effort, Prophet manages to destroy a massive Ceph warship using a defensive satellite.
After successfully crushing the invading alien forces, he plummets back to Earth and lands on the Lingshan Islands. This is where the action of Crysis started almost 3 decades earlier, a familiar sight for fans of the franchise. The Nanosuit is altered to regenerate his physical body and Prophet comes back to life. He decides to put everything behind him and embrace his identity as Laurence Barnes, while throwing all the tags into the ocean.
Development of Crysis 3
Crysis 3 was announced in 2012, but development on the game started one year later, before the release of the prequel. Much of the development took place in the United Kingdom, with significant resources being relocated from other games. It has a massive budget and a lot was invested in superior graphics, without ignoring the gameplay. The team worked diligently to create an apocalyptic environment, an eclectic mix between the urban jungle and its real counterpart.
The plot as well as the gameplay changed several times, with developers wanting to make sure the game is released bugs-free. They hired real actors and recorded their performance, including facial expressions and body movements. The goal was to create characters that behave as natural as their real counterparts.
Where can I download Crysis 3?
Crysis 3 can be downloaded from the Electronic Arts website alone or in a bundle including the prequels. The software developer is also famous for its sports simulators, so fans of the genre can acquire Madden NFL 16, FIFA 16 or EA Sports UFC 2 here. Crysis 3 was praised for its ability to maintain the same high standards after the prequel set the bar very high. Celebrated for its animations, graphics and sound effects, the videogame scored an average of 75 out of 100 points. The realistic environments, the animations and character behavior were appreciated by the fans as well as professional reviewers.
The layout of most missions was regarded as a step forward by most players, but many more upset with the clumsy controls. Savvy players who spend a lot of time playing the first two games in the series also complained about the latest installment being too easy. There was almost a consensus in regard to the quality of the multiplayer, widely regarded as better than the single player.
Crysis 3 tournaments
The first-person shooter can be played in multiplayer, yet these games are restricted to a handful of players competing against their peers. There are no Crysis 3 tournaments and the odds of this game entering the eSports arena are slim to none. Counter Strike Global Offensive is a competent alternative, while those who prefer EA products can play both Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare.
My rating of Crysis 3
I remember how disappointed I was when the original Crysis game was released and my computer was not good enough. By the time the second installment hit the stores, I was already in possession of a powerful PC and could enjoy it on high details. While I’m still in awe with the visuals of Crysis 3, this is the first time I actually feel free from its spell and can look at it objectively.
This is not only a great looking game, but also a competent first-person shooter with a great multiplayer. I’ve enjoyed every mission and even though the plot of the single player campaign is sometimes convoluted, it gets the job done. I’m sad that this game ends the trilogy, but I’m glad that developers wrapped it up with a quality product that deserves a review score of 8.5 out of 10.
