F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin was developed by Monolith and published by Warner Bros and it is a sequel to F.E.A.R. The first-person shooter survival horror game can be played on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles and also Microsoft Windows powered systems. It is the second installment in the franchise and a prequel to F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn. The expansion was released in September 2009.

In single player, the most dangerous foes are not soldiers, but supernatural beings. Against them, weapons have no effect. By comparison, multiplayer is rich in first-person shooter elements and participants try to secure objectives while eliminating the opponents.

F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn is one of the most appreciated expansions for the F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin games, with a fully fledged narrative. Players assume the role of a Replica soldier and is tasked with finding Paxton Fettel and freeing him from the psychic amplifier. Alma is the archenemy once again and she goes to great lengths to prevent the rogue Replica from fulfilling his task. Players can use the slow-motion abilities to deal with the mind control soldiers attacking them and dispatching the supernatural beings.

The game was also available on both consoles and PCs and captures the very essence of the original, by expanding on its iconic environments. The developers did a great job at providing more vertical spaces that players can explore while completing individual missions. The expansion concludes with the Replica soldier reaching his destination to free Paxton Fettel who is reborn by taking over his body.

F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin is a first-person shooter horror survival video game. Its narrative picks up after the events of the original game. Players assume the role of a military squad leader whose role is to take a corporate executive into custody. Things quickly spiral out of control and players get to confront the supernatural beings controlled by Alma, while being overwhelmed by strange visions.

F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin walks in the footsteps of the original game and the gameplay features the same popular game mechanics. Players can take on powerful foes by using the slow-motion combat, but also an impressive array of weapons and martial arts attacks. The artificial intelligence has been improved greatly, therefore enemies are now capable of taking cover and use the environment to stage ambushes.

Some of the core abilities have been removed, with players no longer being able to lean and walk. ON the flip side, the iron sight aiming has returned. Most of the confrontations will pit players against enemy soldiers, but the toughest opponents are not flesh and blood. The checkpoint system makes it essential for players to plan at least a few steps ahead, because it is not possible to manually save the game. On the bright side, players can replay any of the F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin levels after completing them once.

F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin isn’t exactly a difficult game to complete, especially if you have played the prequel. The original and the expansion pack set the mood for the sequel and the gameplay hasn’t changed much. Developers found it worthwhile to shift focus from horror survival elements to combat. The learning curve is not steep when it comes to understanding how the new weapons and special abilities work. Some missions however are challenging and this is where a FEAR 2 walkthrough comes in handy.

The game doesn’t have any puzzles and the obvious solution is always the right one. That’s why those who search for a F.E.A.R. 2 walkthrough are not about complex quests. The difficulty resides in simply overpowering waves of incoming enemies or entering well defended perimeters. F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin can be played on several difficulty levels, so resorting to cheats is rarely a solution. FEAR 2 walkthroughs provide the middle ground for those who are not experienced enough, but want to keep it fair. A quick glance at the videos posted by players who have already completed the game will solve any mystery. The fact that checkpoints are frequent and players who fail don’t have to return back too much also helps.

However, those who are hell-bent on using FEAR 2 cheats have dozens at their disposal throughout the campaign. Most of them serve the purpose of helping players collect a percentage of the journal intelligence found throughout the game. This makes perfect sense in the context of better understanding the story and doesn’t necessarily count as cheating. Other FEAR 2 cheats help complete missions on any difficulty, and for each interval, players should use a different code.

These go by the name of sanctuary, awakening, discovery, withdrawal, replica, ruin, top and elementary for the first eight intervals. From this point onward players have the option of playing without any codes or keep cheating. If they choose the latter, Nurse's Office, Snake Fist, Keegan, Epicenter, Approach and Climax are the ones to use. In all these cases, players need to use “Complete:” before the name of the mission for the FEAR 2 cheats to work.

Plot of F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin

FEAR 2 Project Origin has a new protagonist which goes by the name of Michael Becket, the leader of a Delta Force squad. His initial mission is to take an official into protective custody but once Alma appears in his visions, things take a turn for the worse. The initial confrontations with ATC Security's black ops are just a prelude for the more difficult fights to come.

Becket’s squad is crippled by a powerful explosion during the initial mission and the hospital in which he is operated is also attacked by ATC forces. As he tries to escape the complex under siege, he is attacked by Alma who tries to absorb the leading character. He discovers that he was psychically altered and he now emits a powerful system. This acts as a magnet for the maleficent creature, so his mission is tougher.

His next missions take him to ATC research facilities, where he learns about their plans to create more psyche commanders. Here he rescues Snake Fist who teaches him how to defeat Alma, who is only vulnerable to a powerful device capable of amplifying psychic power. In order to find this device and harness its power, Becket travels to the nuclear reactor on Still Island. On his way, he has to survive the assaults of replica troops, as well as Alma’s supernatural creatures lurking behind every corner.

In the final chapter, when Becket is on the verge of accomplishing his mission. Genevieve Aristide locks him and Alma together inside the device. She plans on using Alma’s power against ATC troops, but the protagonist manages to free himself. The plot of F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin concludes with Alma pregnant with Becket's child in an eerie environment, devastated by a powerful explosion.

Development of F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin

F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin was announced three years after the original game and was only released on February 2009. The developers paid no attention to either of the expansions, so the story is independent of both Extraction Point or Perseus Mandate. The game was initially unveiled in 2007 at the E3 Expo. The demo over footage highlighted the achievements of the new game engine. More teaser trailers followed and developers also presented dozens of screenshots to the media in late 2008. By the time it was released in 2009, much of the plot was already leaked, but the game was still critically acclaimed.

Where can I download F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin?

FEAR 2 Project Origin can now be downloaded from both Warner Brose and Monolith websites. The  franchise now includes games produced by different developers rather than one company. That's why some of the sequels, including the upcoming F.E.A.R. 3 can’t be downloaded from the same place.

What are others saying about F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin?

F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin was well received by the players as well as the critics and celebrated for returning to the roots of the series. The horror elements made it a fan favorite, although the game was also praised for its combat mechanics as a first-person shooter. Some critics were not satisfied with the level design and the fact that too many fights would pit players against mech armor.

The advancements in AI as well as the improved slo-mo effect were also acknowledged in reviews. These had an average score of 80 out of 100. Some were disgruntled with the manner in which the game ended. Most players were utterly impressed and this reflected in the high number of sold copies and also in reviews.

F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin tournaments

FEAR 2 Project Origin is a fun game to play in multiplayer, although it shines brighter as a horror first-person shooter for single player. There is nothing essentially wrong about putting your skills to the test against your peers, but you won’t have this option of playing in F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin. E-sports fans would be better off playing Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, Counter Strike Source, Gears of War 4, Tom Clancy’s The Division or Battlefield 4.

My rating of F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin

I’ve stumbled upon the original game in the series by accident, but I have to say that it left a long-lasting impression on me. By the time F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin hit the stores, I was already excited about playing the new release and I was by no means disappointed. If you play it right, namely with your headphones on and in relative dark, it can be quite a scary game This is always great news for a first-person shooter horror. I’m happy to rate it 8.5 out of 10 and I’m also looking forward to playing F.E.A.R. 3.
