The WWE 2K14 games

WWE 2K14 gets players familiar with the game mechanics by inviting them to play the single player campaign. As they progress with the 45 matches they learn more about the iconic wrestlers and meet the legendary characters in the arena. This mode has its very own roster of athletes and all of those who participated in WrestleMania are on this list. The goal is to beat the game by securing various objectives and sometimes these missions feel a bit restrictive, as players have to follow a sequence of inputs.

The single player campaign is well compartmented, with each chapter having a title that highlights the importance of a certain wrestling era. To some extent, WrestleMania also has educational value by helping wrestling fans put things into perspective and learn a thing or two about the sport’s history.

A tribute to the Undertaker

One of the most popular WWE 2K14 games is the streak mode, in which players try to extend the Undertaker’s undefeated run of 21 matches. They will battle various opponents and hope to defend and then extend the streak, but they also have the option of playing as another character and try to break it. Those who choose to play against the Undertaker will have a hard task ahead, and this mode is widely regarded as the most difficult in the entire game.

The WWE Universe mode is back after its success in the prequels and players have a chance to customize any of the existing WWE shows. It is possible to bring back to life some of the retired series or set up new ones from scratch by putting various wrestlers into the same arena. Players have unrestricted access to all the relevant WWE statistics and can reset the universe mode at any time to start from scratch. The Rivalry Manager is a newly introduced tool that empowers players to influence the storyline of the single player.

What is WWE 2K14

WWE 2K14 is a professional wrestling videogame developed by Visual Concepts and Yuke’s. It was published by 2K Sports and was their first wrestling game, with its success prompting the company to produce a sequel. Some of the game mechanics were so popular that they were adopted by WWE 2K13, a game that can be played on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Gameplay of WWE 2K14

WWE 2K14 is a significant upgrade to the prequel, although many of the gameplay features were preserved and improve. The navigation system is significantly better and action unfolds at a faster pace, therefore the learning curve is steeper. New special moves were added and the chain reversals have significantly shortened the duration of each games, by encouraging offensive moves. For the first time in the series, catapult finishers can be used to serve offensive purposes and inflict more damage.

Depending on the character of choice, players can catch their opponents in midair and use a finisher to bring them into submission. WWE 2K14 introduces the celebrated OMG moments in which players interact with the environment and finish off two opponents simultaneously. New matches were also added, including a gauntlet game, while the Slobberknocker Mode has returned.

Create-a-Superstar used to be one of the most popular modes in the prequel and it has returned, while more wrestlers were added. The current roster includes in excess of 100 athletes and those who choose to play this game mode, can craft their own finishers and entrances. This takes customization to a whole different level and is supposed to get players more immersed into the wrestling universe.

Check out what Conan O'Brien has to say about WWE 2K14 in his Clueless Gamer review:

WWE 2K14 tournaments

The single player is exciting enough as to keep players hooked for a long time, but eventually they will hope to try their skills in WWE 2K14 tournaments. While there are no such ample competitions bringing together tens of thousands of players as in other e-sports, multiplayer is fully fledged. For the time being, players will have to find solace in taking on one opponent at a time and bring him into submission.

My rating of WWE 2K14

Truth be told, I don’t watch wrestling and I didn’t expect to play a themed videogame in my life. WWE 2K14 started more as a work-related project, but somehow it grew on me and I couldn’t put it down until finishing the entire single player campaign. I wouldn’t brag about knowing a great deal about the sport simply because I’ve completed the 30 Years of Wrestlemania mission set, but it was still enlightening.

In a nutshell, my expectations were exceeded and WWE 2K14 ended up being quite an exciting experience despite my initial bias. I’m always happy to acknowledge my mistakes and I’m glad that I had the chance to play a game that deserves a rating of 8 out of 10.
